MARKETING ASSISTANT

A marketing assistant is a junior marketer who performs administrative tasks for a marketing team, department, or manager to assist with the development and execution of marketing strategies, campaigns, and events.

Marketing assistants provide marketing and administrative support for their teams to help accomplish various marketing activities. Here’s a list of the most common marketing assistant duties:

  • Conduct market research to identify the target audience’s needs, competition, and trends to help in creating marketing strategies and plans
  • Monitor marketing campaigns’ progress and results to gather data to help improve performance
  • Deliver graphic, written, or verbal presentations and reports of findings, statistics, and insights
  • Assist in creating and updating content on multiple platforms, including website, social media accounts, blogs, and emails
  • Help with the organization and coordination of marketing and promotional events, such as conferences, exhibitions, and trade shows
  • Provide general office support, which can include answering phone calls, sorting mail, and arranging appointments

Marketing assistant jobs range in their requirements from just mid-level GCSEs to a bachelor’s degree with a year or more of experience. You’d also gain an advantage if you have prior administrative or sales experience.

You can pursue your career as a marketing assistant in several ways:

  • Obtain a bachelor’s degree in marketing, sales, business or another relevant field
  • Complete a marketing internship, training, or courses
  • Earn a certification in digital marketing, email marketing, or content writing
  • Shift from an administrative or sales role to marketing

Each of these options provides you with the basic knowledge and skills you’ll need to become a good marketing assistant. However, with experience, you’ll be qualified to attain a higher-paying job as a marketing specialist, manager, or, eventually, executive.
